We realize how daunting it is to come into this hobby as a beginner.
You're a fighter and you don't want to keep relying on borrowing a kit that doesn't quite fit you, gets in the way while fighting, therefore hindering your real potential. We have all been there. We also don't want you to spend money twice - buying from dodgy vendors (there are a lot of those.)
We have already done our homework, spent a lot of money, wasted a lot of money. We have devised a quick, short guide for new members with information on what to buy first & what to look out for.

Safety First!
We recommend buying some plastic armour used by riot police. Forearms, thighs, shins and knees get hit very often therefore some light, plastic protection that is easily concealed will be a benefit. You can find these on eBay by typing in 'riot gear'.
We also advise everyone to make sure they have ample body padding with some hidden plastic protection. This could be a motorcycle armour that can be bought on Amazon/Ebay etc. Groin guard is also heavily recommended to avoid those nasty spear shots!
(All modern protection has to be covered with authentic clothing at events).
Helmet
It's always a good idea to start off by buying a helmet. Your first helmet can predicted what you will be reenacting for the rest of your days, it doesn't have to, but many members find it helped them a lot. Region of the find of your helmet can help you further in completing the rest of your kit.
It is important that the helmet style is historically accurate while giving you the needed protection. We recommend going with the "Norman" type with full face aventail. Lake Lednica, Spangenhelm, Lake Orchowe helmets are good to start with. If you don't like them - do some more googling and reading regarding a helmet you like.
The helmet needs to be at least 2mm thick & have ample head padding to prevent concussions.
These can be ordered from a trader called 'Kram Goch'.

Gloves
It's important we protect our hands from cuts and breaks. This is why we all use variety of gloves. The best ones are those which are very inconspicuous, with simple design, hidden metal plates.
